Students gather in front of Milan’s gothic cathedral during a protest in downtown Milan, Italy, Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, a day after lawmakers at the Italian Senate gave the final approval to bitterly contested school reforms. Unions representing teachers and other school workers called a nationwide strike for Thursday to protest the reforms, which they fear will cause staff cuts and damage education.
